Oldest magazine pioneers in new media

A national icon and one of the world's longest running publications pioneers in the newest medium.

The Bulletin has launched an extensive new publishing website at bulletin.ninemsn.com.au. The site pioneers a new online subscription-access model, delivers a faster and easier to use navigational interface for users to drill down into an extensive archive of material, and features tight integration with the rest of the ninemsn network.

Working with the magazine's editorial team and publishers, and with the online team from Australia's most popular online network, ninemsn, the new website builds on the magazine's five year success using itechne's edDesk cross-media publishing platform.

Content for the web is entirely produced and managed by the magazine's editorial team through the same system they use to create and manage content for the print edition of the magazine. It also delivers powerful internal research and archiving tools, and generates XML versions of the content for syndication to partners and for use by the Factiva publicactions research engine. And it handles integration with the technology used across the ninemsn network.

The system lets the team determine which content is made available to subscribers or the general public, and provides a palette of research tools for users to mine the extensive archive of materials available on the site.

All of which means that the magazine team can produce one of the most content-rich publishing sites in Australia effciently and cost-effectively using its existing resources.
